St-Art 2009 14th European Contemporary Art Fair
This 14th Fair, held at the Exhibition Centre in Strasbourg from 26 to 30th November, immediately got into full swing with significant sales already being made on the professional day of 25th November (preview day).
Over 1,000 artworks displayed at the Fair were sold, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings. Every gallery made sales. Some even recorded their highest sales of the year.
Among the highest prices for works sold:
- some artworks selling for around 75,000 were snapped up,
- several galleries boasted many other artworks sold for between 20,000 and 40,000 euros.
Number of visitors maintained
The Fair attracted more than 27,000 visitors.
The preview was a total success with 5,000 visitors.
The percentage of visitors from Germany rose this year.
The Fair makes its mark
Strasbourg Événements and Patrick-Gilles Persin, St-art's new Artistic Director are determined to pursue current successes and underpin St-art's rank as the leading French Contemporary Art Fair outside Paris by focusing on quality – in terms of both the galleries selected and the artworks on display.
The principle of organising prestigious exhibitions and events during the Fair will be renewed. An international photography exhibition is on the cards for 2010.
Already this year, the selection criteria became more stringent, hence the slight drop in the number of galleries present compared with 2008.
Finally, we can confirm St-art's rank as a truly European Fair with 40% of galleries coming from abroad.
The public was captivated by the exhibitions
We have observed that the range of techniques displayed by the galleries is on the increase. The positioning of the stands was also revamped, with Strasbourg Événements making sure that the visitors' itinerary was attractive and diversity enhanced.
The visitors showed particular interest in:
- the originality of the contemporary tapestry exhibition (Workshop 3)
- the galleries from Istanbul and the "Meeting Europe – Istanbul" Exhibition
- the display of exceptional contemporary glass artworks
- the Video.
Enjoy your visit!
