Press Release of 30th November 2010
In a difficult economic climate and in spite of troublesome weather conditions, the 15th European Contemporary Art Fair in Strasbourg met with notable success.
With the number of visitors slightly down (10% less), the organisers nonetheless welcomed 24,000 visitors, which proves that, despite the cold weather, the population of Alsace remained faithful to the Fair. Like every year, and even more so than last year, the preview night was a tremendous success with 5,400 guests present.
Although the business side had its ups and downs according to the galleries, it was deemed satisfactory “overall” by the exhibitors with nearly 900 works sold or sales agreed to. Moreover, business transactions were already underway on the professional day of 25th November, the day the preview night was also held.
The high spot of the 2010 Fair was the strong presence of Catalonian galleries (15 in all) with, among others, the exceptional exhibition of Mayoral Gallery who displayed Picassos from the very early period and some exceptional works by Saura and Barcelo, not to mention Dali, Tapies, Botero, Chilida etc. With their fine gathering, greatly appreciated by the public and the organisers, these galleries achieved significant sales and were satisfied with the business trend developed.
In addition to the commercial exhibition, the Fair’s other events were greeted enthusiastically, with the participation of Bucarest invited by Apollonia, the “Raw Art” exhibition organised by the Médicis Association, Carte Blanche by the City of Strasbourg, contemporary glass art by Esgaa, the participation for the first time of Alsace Vintage Wines and the backing of various partners such as Deloitte and Audi.
Now’s the time to note down the 16th St-Art in November 2011 in your diaries!
